Exchanging HTML with Other Applications

Though the built-in HTML editor should be fine for simple messages, you may want to use your favorite HTML editor to create more complicated ones. You can use two different methods to bring an HTML page over to FollowUpExpert’s message editor.

Using Clipboard to Copy HTML Page

This method is very simple. Open the HTML page in your favorite editor, select the entire page, and copy it to the clipboard. Then open the message editor, and use the “Paste” toolbar button to copy the page over.

You can use this method to copy HTML pages from your web browser. The steps are exactly the same: select entire web page in the browser, copy it, open the message editor, and paste the page onto it.

The method has certain drawbacks though. For some HTML editors and browsers the images may not come through or the page may appear corrupted. The best you can do in this case is import the page from an HTML file on your hard drive (see the next section).

Loading HTML Page

To load an HTML page into the editor, use the “Open File” button . Change the file format using the “Files of type” drop-down list to “HTML Files”, and browse to where the page is on your hard drive. Select the right file, and click “Open”.

Important: Due to limitations of the built-in editor the message may look different than in the web browser or in the HTML editor you used to create it. In this case, I suggest sending it to yourself. It may not look right after you send it. This may happen to HTML that is using CSS extensively to position page elements. If that is the case, use the external HTML editor to modify the page so it uses as little CSS as possible, and test it again until the result is satisfactory.

Saving HTML Page

You can export an HTML message to a file using the “Save As File” button . Click the button, select the “HTML Files” format using the “Files of type” drop-down list, browse to a known location on your hard drive, type the file name, and click “Save”. The HTML is saved along with all embedded pictures.
