Double opt-in
Both discussion and newsletter mailing lists offer double-opt in; this means that the user must send an email with a request to add her to the mailing list but she wil not be added to the database immediately. Instead the software will send a confirmation message. The user must hit "Reply" to be added to the mailing list.
