Layout Wizard

Layout Wizard is a tool that will build the layout of your site map automatically by scanning your web site for files. To complete Layout Wizard you need to go through a few steps described below.

Step 1 - Mode Selection

Fig 1. Layout Wizard - Mode Selection

In the first step you choose one of two methods of scanning a website: navigation or file structure mode. You can also choose XML mode, which allows importing of layout structure defined in XML language (note: this mode is only available in Professional Edition of SiteXpert). The last mode (custom mode) should be used when no default layout is to be built (all site map items are entered manually).

You should use the file structure mode if you have a well defined file and directory structure (files are located in a directory tree similar to the logical layout of the website). If this is not the case (for example all the files of your website are located in a single directory) or you don't have a local copy of the website, you are adviced to use the navigation mode. If you are building a custom page (for example a links page) custom mode should be used. You will need to define the layout tree yourself.

If you want to create a search engine, you should select 'I want to create a search engine'. Please go to Creating a search engine to find out more.
