Character translation table

You should use the character translation table when creating a search engine for a language with special characters (e.g. French, German). This will ensure search results are correct no matter if your visitor is using special characters (e.g. 'öffnen') or regular characters (e.g. 'oeffnen').

The character translation table (found in Options / Search engine / Character translation) consists of pairs containing:

• Original character (e.g. 'ö'). This must be a single character
• Replace with text: (e.g. 'o' or 'oe'). This can be an empty text (in such case the above character will be ignored), or text at most two characters long.
