Problem:

The CEO has decided that your company website needs a fresh look. Sounds great, but the website has a couple of hundred pages in 4 languages!

Traditional solution using static HTML:

Simply take your time. Rewrite all pages from scratch. Copy relevant text fragments from old pages to the new ones restructuring the information as necessary. Then repeat that for each of the three remaining languages. This of course requires your knowing the other languages or cooperation of the translators but never mind that! In the meantime create the necessary graphical elements. Not a problem if the graphics do not contain language-specific elements but if they do - more manual work! Then upload the pages to the website. Do not mess up the locations of the different versions on the FTP server and be sure to check if the links between pages do work!

Traditional solution using server-side script and a remote database:

Why, rewrite the pages. Get through the hell of a mess of the server-side script and HTML code mixed up together. And you would better remember the names of all tables and fields as you proceed. Hopefully you do not need to modify the database to accommodate for the changes to the way the information is structured. If there are no changes to the structure to be made then all you need to worry about is all that text you did not bother to put into the database. Back to the manual labor again!

WebsMill approach:

Visually edit the exact part of the website that changes, i.e. the layout and leave the content intact. This way the content of your website (for instance text fragments used throughout the site, information about your products and so on) does not come into your way when editing the graphical appearance of the pages. Then click a single button to have the website generated and uploaded to your web server.

You can preview the website at any time without uploading it to the remote web server which is not exactly the case when you are using server-side script. This makes the entire edit-preview cycle much faster and its easier to spot mistakes along the way. Also, the links between the pages are generated automatically and you do not need to check them either manually or using a third-party tool. And if you want to upload the website to the mirror domain there is nothing you need to change except for the FTP settings.

The other language versions of the site are also a single mouse click away. If you use the BitmapText plug-in that ships with WebsMill, the bitmaps containing the language-dependent text will get generated and automatically uploaded to the web server. If there are any new or modified text fragments that need translation, all you need to do is to launch the integrated Translation Tool and see them instantly marked with a different color. And the translators can do the changes all by themselves since it does not require HTML knowledge. That means you can go fishing as far as the website is concerned!
